Share data

Sharing research data is part of good scientific practice. Transferring research data to the Research Data Centre at the IQB allows the full potential of a data set to be realised. As a research data centre, we strike a balance between the interests of data providers and data users. Here you will find answers to the six most frequently asked questions about data sharing.

How to

We are currently conducting a study. What should we look for in data management?

You can use the Standardised Data Management Plan for Educational Research (Stamp) to plan, organise, implement and document data management. Stamp guides you through data management – from the planning phase to reuse in accordance with the FAIR data principles.

What kind of data can be transferred to the research data centre at the IQB?

The Research Data Centre at the IQB specialises in curating data sets with competence measurements (subject-specific and/or interdisciplinary competences). Data sets from studies without competence tests are not included. Other partners in the Research Data Education Network (VerbundFDB) are responsible for this.

In which form can data be transferred to the Research Data Centre at the IQB?

Data sets should be submitted in a common data format (SPSS files, R, Stata or .csv formats). Documentation materials should be in MS Office or PDF formats.

How will the data be transmitted?

Data sets are uploaded via the central file transfer portal of the Verbund Forschungsdaten Bildung (VerbundFDB). To do this, you must create a user account. When uploading your data securely, you will be asked to provide additional information about your study (known as metadata). We require this metadata to ensure that the data can be found later in accordance with the FAIR data principles.

How will the data be published?

The research data will be given its own study page on our website. The metadata, blank data, documentation materials and publications will be stored there. The research data will also be given its own DOI. This will make the data easy to find and clearly citable. The Research Data Centre at the IQB will conclude a data submission agreement with you. This agreement will set out in detail all the conditions for the further transfer of the data and materials.
