The research data centre at the IQB (FDZ at IQB) was founded in 2007 to archive and provide access to educational large-scale assessments to monitor educational standards in Germany.
After five years of start-up funding from the BMBF, the FDZ at the IQB was funded from October 2011 to December 2023 by the Center for International Student Assessment (ZIB), which is funded by the federal and state governments. Since 2024, the FDZ at the IQB has been funded by the federal and state governments in cooperation with the ZIB.
The main task of the Research Data Centre at the IQB is to secure and provide data sets from national and international school performance studies for cross-national education monitoring (PISA, TIMSS, IGLU and IQB Trends in Student Achievment).
The Research Data Centre at the IQB specialises in curating data sets and accompanying materials from studies involving competence measurements. The competences measured in the studies can be discipline-specific or interdisciplinary.
Data sets from studies without competency tests are not accepted by the Research Data Centre at the IQB. Other partners in the German Network of Educational Research Data (VerbundFDB) are responsible for this.
